After nearly 80 years of providing aerial agriculture and helicopter services to the Sheridan area, greater Wyoming, and Montana, Bighorn Airways of Sheridan, WY has decided to sell its agriculture and helicopter division to Bighorn Flying Company. Bighorn Flying Co was established in 2023 and opened for business in 2024. We are honored to be trusted with the responsibility of continuing to serve customers the Sheridan area, Wyoming, and Montana.
Jamie Foy, the former Bighorn Airways Director of Agriculture Operations has teamed up with brothers Matt Volf and Ryan Volf, owners of Central States Helicopters to form Bighorn Flying Company. This new partnership will enable Jamie to continue to provide exceptional customer service and aerial services while bringing additional aviation assets into the area.
Jamie is not just a pilot. He has literally learned the aerial application business from the ground up.
He grew up on a family farm and later owned his own crop advisor business in MS. He moved to Wyoming in 2000 where he went to work for the Padlock Ranch and eventually became the natural resource manager for Padlock. During his time at the Padlock Ranch he was involved in invasive species control, rangeland stewardship and management, low stress cattle handling along with general care of the ranch and it’s landscape.
Jamie later went on to become an agricultural pilot and has been involved in aerial application projects on the western landscape from Texas to Montana. Jamie’s time working on ranch level projects, coupled with his time in the air making range and pasture applications has given him a level of insight into the needs of the western landowner that few other pilots possess.
Ryan is a second generation aerial application Business owner.
Some of Ryan's first memories as a child are riding around in a helicopter with his dad.
After graduating from Highschool, Ryan went on to enlist in the Marine Corps. During his time in service, he deployed to Afghanistan twice, Providing security for high-ranking officers and VIPs.
After returning home from military service, Ryan joined the family business alongside his brother and father. After a few years of loading helicopters and flight training, Ryan moved into the office where he began to manage the day to day logistics and operation of the business.
Ryan's sole focus is providing Ranchers and Farmers with quality customer service and dependable aerial application services.
Matt is a second generation agriculture pilot and aerial application business owner.
He was raised in the aerial application business. As a kid, his summer alarm clock was a helicopter firing up just before sunrise.
Matt served in the US Marine Corps from 2003 until 2009. He did two tours in Iraq.
Matt started flying in 2009 and has been a working Ag Pilot since 2010. He has flown various agriculture jobs in 8 states. he also flew air ambulance for 7 years in Nebraska.
From the cornfields of the Midwest, the mountain pastures of Appalachia, and the forestry tracts of the east coast and southern states, Matt brings thousands of flight hours and hundreds of thousands of acres flown worth of experience to Bighorn's service area.
